TUNDRA SWAN SURVEY

The swan watch program has the two broad goals of increasing our knowledge of Tundra Swans and raising awareness about the species. These two objectives will together serve to contribute to the conservation of the species and its habitat. Via casual observations, swan watchers will record as much data as they can on data sheets provided by Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory. Swan watchers will submit their data sheets once fall migration has ended (after they have stopped seeing any swans for ten days). Since Lesser Slave Lake and area is an Important Bird Area, 2003 was the first year that Tundra Swans were monitored. Data was collected includes numbers of swans seen, dates and life stage.
