Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory’s
15th Annual Songbird Festival

June 6 and 7, 2009

Join us at the
Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation
In Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park
and help us celebrate the wonder of spring migration

Saturday, June 6, 2009
6:30 AM to 1 PM at the Boreal Centre


Boreal Bird Experience Hikes ($5): 6:30, 7:30 & 8:30 AM
  Talk a 2-hour birding walk with our interpreters and drop by the banding lab for a visit.
Banding Lab Tours ($5): departing at 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 AM
Family Activities: 9 AM to 1 PM
  Bird House Building ($10), Bird mask craft, “The Life of Birds” tent with fun hands-on activities, face painting
PRIZE FOR BEST BIRD COSTUME – children will have the opportunity to create a costume at the festival
Special Workshops: 10 AM – 1 PM

Birding Basics with the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory
Would you like to be a bird watcher? Learn the basics of birding and bird identification with this interactive and fun program for all ages.

Green Cleaning Workshop, Alberta Conservation Team
This is a hands-on workshop inviting participants to consider the impact of cleaning chemicals on our environment and health, and consider healthy alternatives. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about green cleaning and make their own multi purpose green cleaner.

This is a hands-on workshop inviting participants to consider the impact of cleaning chemicals on our environment and health, and consider healthy alternatives. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about green cleaning and make their own multi purpose green cleaner.  
  12 Noon Multipurpose Room Trumpeter Swan Presentation
–Alain Fontaine, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development.
The Trumpeter Swan was once common throughout North America. By the 1900s, however, a combination of habitat destruction and hunting led the species to near extinction. Discover more about the worlds rarest swan and hear about the conservation efforts taking place to recover the trumpeter swan populations in Northern Alberta.

Family walk in the Boreal Forest
Explore the secrets of the Boreal Forest with the Lesser Slave Forest Education Society. Suitable for all ages.

Building Tours of the Boreal Centre

On-site parking is limited, so carpool to the event with a friend.

5th Annual Bird Run/Walk – 5K or 10K
  Departs from the BCBC at 10 AM on the TransCanada Trail
Call 780-849-8240 to register. ($10)
LSLBO Banding Lab Tours: 8 – 11 AM
Special Guided Hike to beautiful Lily Lake: 10 AM to 2 PM
  Meet at the parking lot at Marten Mountain Lookout at 10 AM

A small fee is charged for some of the activities at the festival.
All proceeds from this event directly support our exciting education and research programs.
