The Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory offers tours of the migration monitoring station during spring and fall migration. Spring migration monitoring begins at the end of April and goes until June 10. Fall migration begins on July 12 and goes until the end of September. Daily monitoring times change across the season since they are determined by sunrise. Monitoring begins half an hour before sunrise and ends seven hours later on fair weather days. The station is open every day during these periods; although if it is too cold, rainy or windy, the mist nets may not be up and monitoring time is reduced from seven hours to five, which would limit tour content.

A tour lasts approximately 1 hour and includes information about migration and the monitoring station, hands-on activities for children and the opportunity to see a migrating bird up close in-hand. Bird watchers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate! Scheduled tours run during the months of July and August although we do also allow visitors at other times throughout the season.
