Special Projects:

Barry Lunde Memorial Donations

Visiting the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory always means a stop at the beautiful Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation.  Working closely with the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory and Alberta Parks, Barry Lunde was the Project Manager for Chandos Construction; the company that built the Boreal Centre in 2005-2006.  For Barry, this project was a labour of love as well as a challenging puzzle to solve as they worked diligently to construct this unique LEED Gold education and research centre.  Barry was incredibly proud of this project and the work that we do here. He would often stop in when he was in the area to check on how things were going and to show off the project to co-workers. But we think that seeing this facility come to life with excited visitors, families and school groups was his biggest reward for a job well done.

In memory of Barry and all that he did for the LSLBO, we are helping his family set up a special memorial  project. Funds donated in Barry’s memory will sponsor our Canadian Birdathon team as they fundraise for the construction of a new Wheelchair Ramp at the LSLBO Migration Monitoring Station this spring. We thought he would love supporting this special construction project for the LSLBO Society that will remove barriers for people wanting to experience our amazing bird research.  Charitable receipts will be provided through the Birdathon program.

The Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory members would like to send our sincere condolences to Barry’s family and thank him for everything he did to make the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation such a success.
